Happy 1st Birthday RUComingOut!!!

On Thursday 4th April we held our first birthday party at The Shadow Lounge in Soho, London. The night was a huge success!
Every person who submitted a coming out story to the project was invited to the event, many travelling from all over the UK. Matthew Todd, Editor of Attitude Magazine, gave a heartfelt speech about the importance of resources like RUComingOut.com. He spoke about the struggles that young people all over the world still face because of their sexuality. He also announced that Attitude and RUComingOut will be working closely together on a monthly feature on coming out for the magazine! The 200 guests arrived to the sounds of Hana Bushnell, a gay singer/songwriter from Northampton. Her beautiful vocals and awesome guitar playing set the tone for what would be a fantastically warm evening. Project Founder Wayne Dhesi welcomed everyone to the event and explained how the website had been visited by over 50,000 people from over 120 countries in its first year. Such an achievement that we should all take credit for. After a fantastically camp performance from musical comedy double act Topping and Butch, it was time for the raffle. Some great prizes were won including theatre tickets and magazine subscriptions. |
